Process · one reporting cycle

UK SRS reporting calendar: one cycle, stage by stage

The rules fix two dates in a UK SRS cycle: when the period starts, and how soon after it ends the report must be out.

Everything else is the order of work between them, and each stage answers to a provision.

The stages

Seven stages in order

The first two stages happen before the period opens, because data that is not captured during the year can only be estimated or explained afterwards.

The close is the hinge: UK SRS S1 ties the disclosures to the financial statements in entity, assumptions and timing.

The last date is set by DTR 4.1, which gives a listed company four months from its year end.

  1. Before the period
    Assess materiality
Which sustainability-related risks and opportunities could affect prospects.
    UK SRS S1 ¶¶17–19
  2. Before the period
Fix the boundary and data plan
Same reporting entity as the financial statements.
    UK SRS S1 ¶20
  3. During the period
    Capture the data
Emissions activity, exposures, capex tagging, remuneration.
    UK SRS S2 ¶29
  4. Year end
    Close with the accounts
    Consistent assumptions; reviewed figures.
    UK SRS S1 ¶¶21–24
  5. After year end
    Draft disclosures and explanations
    Including relief statements.

  6. After year end
    Complete the statements
Location, assurance and, where it applies, transition plan.
    UKLR 6.6.6R(8)(c)–(e)
  7. Within 4 months
Publish with the annual financial report

The first cycle

What is different the first time

The first cycle is lighter by design, through reliefs set by the Standards and the FCA’s rules.

The second cycle is the heavier one: comparatives arrive, and Scope 3 joins comply or explain.

Plan two cycles at once

Work done in the first cycle for Scope 3 and comparatives is what the second cycle relies on.

The parts the cycle produces are listed on the report checklist.

UK SRS S1 ¶E1; S2 ¶C1; FCA PS26/19 ¶3.14.

Frequently asked

Questions people ask

When does UK SRS reporting work start?

Before the period begins.

The data for a period has to be captured during it, and the disclosures are due with the accounts.

For a calendar-year listed company the first period runs from 1 January 2027.

What is the UK SRS reporting deadline?

The disclosures are reported at the same time as the financial statements (UK SRS S1 paragraph 64), and a listed company’s annual financial report must be public within four months of the year end (DTR 4.1.3R).

Is materiality assessed every year under UK SRS?

Yes.

Materiality judgements are made at each reporting date, so a matter left out one year may need disclosing the next.
